Westfield Recognized: "Above and Beyond Award" - ESGR

On Friday, June 23, 2017 the city of Westfield and two of its employees were recognized for outstanding service to National Guard and Reservist members.

The Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve organization is a Department of Defense program that was created in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between the reserve service members and civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment.  Each year the state level organizations hold award ceremonies to recognize those employers who have been nominated by service members and meet certain criteria.

Dave Billips and Fran Cain were both nominated and awarded the ‘Patriot Award’.  They were nominated by a current service member serving in the National Guard or Reserves.  This award is given to recognize their efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.  This award is given to individual supervisors.

Mayor Brian Sullivan accepted the ‘Above and Beyond Award’ on behalf of the city of Westfield.  This award is presented by the state committee to recognize employers at the local level who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act by providing the Guard and Reserve employees additional non-mandated benefits.  According to records, the city of Westfield employs a total of eleven Guard/Reservists.

The City is honored to be recognized for these awards and proud to employ Service members.  Congratulations to Dave Billips, Fran Cain and Mayor Sullivan as City of Westfield, for all of your efforts in receiving these awards and recognitions.
