Active Projects in Westfield
The City of Westfield is constantly improving to become a safer, more efficient, and more aesthetically pleasing community. Below are just a few ways the City of Westfield is helping to create a better environment for it's citizens and businesses.

Arch Road
Stormwater and roadway geometry improvements will improve the safety of Arch Road in the vicinity of local industrial properties.

Columbia Greenway
The next phase of construction of the Columbia Greenway Rail Trail project is set to begin this spring.  Picking up where last year's construction left off, this section will include two bridges and bring the trail to just before East Silver Street.  Included in this section will be access ways for Amelia Park and East Silver Street. See Columbia Greenway Part 2 for more details.

Gas Light District
This project will include infrastructure upgrades and streetscape improvements for the Gas Light District, which is the area of downtown Westfield bounded by Franklin Avenue, Washington, Elm, and Court Streets. New pavement, sidewalks, lighting, underground utilities, and reconfigured parking areas and through streets will improve the function and flow through this core district and will be highlighted by distinctive patterns and a new pocket park. Construction is expected to begin in June and continue over the next two years. See Gas Light District for more details.

Old Town Roads Improvements
For the past decade, the City has selected streets in the downtown to be part of the Old Town Roadway effort. The streets selected typically have poor pavement conditions which triggers the City to look at the infrastructure and see if they need to be upgraded. Key elements this effort addresses are pavement, sidewalks, curbing, drainage, sanitary sewer, and water mains. All of these are looked at and are replaced or refurbished as needed. See Old Town Road Improvements for more details.

Park Square Pavilion
A pavilion is being built at Park Square in Westfield. For the overall plans and elevations, door elevations and details, and the electrical plans with details and schedules, see Park Square Pavilion.

Riverfront Development
In 2012, the Great River Bridge project was completed, spurring renewed interest and discussion about access and use of the Westfield River. The specific opportunity is a four acre area on the southern bank of the Westfield River, between the soon-to-be Columbia Greenway bike path and the approach to the Great River Bridge on Elm Street. This site overlooks the Westfield River and is comprised of multiple parcels, including several city-owned parcels. This investment will provide an additional step in improving the area and setting the stage for further growth in the Great River Bridge area. See Riverfront Development for more details.

Route 187 (Feeding Hills Rd) Reconstruction
Improvements to Route 187 will allow for better pedestrian and traffic flow, increasing safety and efficiency, to this heavily traveled road. See Route 187 for more details.

Western Avenue Improvements
This project consists of roadway improvements along Western Avenue in the City of Westfield from the intersection of Bates Road extending easterly for approximately 2.4 miles to the intersection of Court, High and Mill Streets. Western Avenue is classified as an Urban Minor Arterial that serves the Westfield State University Campus, Stanley Park recreational area, the Highland Elementary School, and several residential neighborhoods. See Western Avenue Improvements for more details.

Williams Riding Way Pump Station Improvements
Major improvements to the station include electrical, HVAC, mechanical, and abatement of hazardous materials, along with water pumping, heat, and energy enhancements. For more information, see Williams Riding Way Pump Station.
