Overview

The Planning Board is a seven member citizen board (eligibility is subject to certain ward limitations) charged with preparing and adopting comprehensive plans for the City regarding such elements as land use, natural and cultural resources, and socioeconomic concerns. It also serves as the custodian of the Zoning Ordinance, though not as its enforcement authority. On a more routine basis, the Board administers the City's Subdivision Regulations and hears zoning applications for commercial, residential, industrial and municipal projects requiring special permits and site plan approvals. The Board is also designated to concurrently review and administer permits under the Stormwater Management Ordinance. Therefore, most major public and private developments proposed in Westfield must first receive the approval of the Board.

Applications & Correspondence

Application submissions, correspondence and other business of the Board are coordinated by the Planning Department (mailing address: 59 Court Street, Suite 300, Westfield, MA 01085). Public input is invited on any application, in person or in writing, prior to the close of the public hearing. File an application or View all pending applications.
