The Collector’s office's primary responsibility is to collect real estate, personal property and motor vehicle excise tax, as well as water, sewer, and waste management fees that appear on the combined utility bill. The city operates on a fiscal year which runs from July 1 to June 30.
The office also processes miscellaneous payments to the city such as out of district tuition payments to Westfield Technical Academy. The office bills and collects fees for off duty police officers that work details on various construction projects throughout the city. The office helps taxpayers resolve problems with their payments, prepares municipal lien certificates and processes payments from other city departments. The office also processes refunds where appropriate. The office works closely with the Treasurer's Office and the Law Department for the collection of overdue taxes up to and including auctions of properties that the city has foreclosed upon.
The 2nd Quarter Fiscal Year 2024 Real Estate Tax bills will be issued on October 1, 2023.
These bills are due on November 1, 2023.
Payments can be made online by using the City's Pay Online feature or by mailing your payment using the enclosed envelope. You may also mail payments to the Collector's Office at 59 Court Street, Westfield, MA 01085. There is a dropbox available near the basement handicap entrance for non-cash payments. If you would like a receipt, please include a self addressed stamped envelope and a receipt will be mailed.
Any payments received after the payment due date are subject to statutory interest at the annual interest rate of 14% per Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 59 Section 57.
The cost for Municipal Lien Certificates is $50.00. Please complete the request form.
Please note that the City now accepts payment by electronic check (e-check) for a fee of only $0.50.
