Dog Licenses
Licensing and Registration
Massachusetts General Law requires that all dogs aged six months and older be licensed each year. Currently, your dog license is due one year from when it was purchased last. A current rabies certificate is required at the time of registration for ALL new licenses and renewals. A spayed/neutered certificate is also required (unless noted on rabies certificate). Licensing helps prevent rabies outbreaks by requiring a certificate of vaccination for all dogs. It also increases the chance that you will be reunited with your pet in the unfortunate event they are lost. Dog licenses can be traced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by Animal Control or the Police Department.
Licensing Fees:
- $15.00 license fee for dogs that are neutered/spayed
- $30.00 license fee for dogs that are unneutered/unspayed
- Important notice: Failure to license after a written warning, will result in a fine of $50.00 per City Ordinance. To review the City Ordinances pertaining to dog licenses, please click here.
- EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2024, ALL REMINDER LETTERS WILL BE EMAILED. PLEASE INCLUDE AN EMAIL ON YOUR APPLICATION!
